At 5,895 meters (19,340 feet) tall, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. Every year, thousands of climbers attempt to reach the top of the dormant, or inactive, volcano, located in Tanzania. And now tourists can access the internet as they climb, thanks to a new high-speed service installed on the mountain.

The hike to Kilimanjaro’s peak takes several days. As climbers ascend, they pass through several different biomes, from tropical rainforest to wide-open grassland, through alpine desert up to the snowy summit. According to Nape Nnauye, Tanzania’s information and communication minister, Wi-Fi will make this journey safer by allowing climbers to access emergency services more easily.
