Disney Goes Solar
SPLASH NEWS/DUKE ENERGY/NEWSCOM
POWER THE MAGIC: This solar array shaped like Mickey Mouse provides the park with enough electricity to power 1,000 homes.
Walt Disney World is located in the heart of sunny Florida. So why not harness some of that sunshine to help power its theme park? Last year, Disney started construction on two new solar arrays, or collections of solar panels, near its Orlando resort. These facilities, scheduled to come online this year, will convert sunlight into electricity to run the park’s lights, rides, and more.
Disney World already has two solar facilities in Florida—one of which is shaped like Mickey Mouse. Together, the new and existing arrays will provide about 40 percent of the park’s yearly energy needs.
